Character Info
Fandom: Heroes
Name: Sylar
Gender: male
Age: 30s
Species: Human (evolved)
Personality:
Sylar is what some might consider psychopathic. While he isn't a classic sociopath - as he does feel things like love, remorse, and general affections toward others - he does have qualities that fit within the antisocial parameters. He has little to no problem manipulating and violating the rights of others and he shows very little sympathy or regret for most of his actions. Part of this fractured mental health can be blamed on his supernatural ability - Intuitive Aptitude - which allows him to figure out how anything works just be a brief examining of it. Once the ability was triggered by the impulsive murder of another evolved human, Sylar began to experience an intense hunger for more abilities - an affliction which only worsened his mental health and sent him on a serial killing spree that he has only recently deviated from.

While he typically only targets evolved humans for their abilities, Sylar has no qualms with killing anyone who stands in his way. This is something that has only changed recently as his moral compass has begun to waver closer to true and Sylar has begun to desire to become a better person. This was, in part, inspired by Claire Bennet - an object of Sylar's obsession for quite some time - after an empath told him she was the key to his making sure he didn't spend the rest of eternity alone. Sylar has bouts of repentance and regret intermingled with bouts of emotionless killing, dependent on whether or not he's supported during whichever phase he happens to be in. There is little he truly cares about, though recently he has begun an almost single-minded quest to become a better person than he was. He has only ever loved one woman in his life - his mother - who he killed after she condemned him for being "special". Sylar has severe issues surrounding his family as well as the concept of being "special" and different than other people.

Canon Point Where Character Deviates: 4.16 "The Art of Deception" - Peter didn't show up to Parkman's place and Parkman bricked Sylar up in his basement where his unconscious body stayed indefinitely.
History:
Sylar was raised as Gabriel Gray. His father sold him to his uncle, but not before brutally murdering Gabriel's mother in front of his very eyes. The memory was suppressed for years and Gabriel grew up pining to be "special" and to do something bigger with his life, a dream which was enabled by his new mother's overzealous coddling. Growing up, he worked in his new father's watch repair shop and was eventually approaching by Chandra Suresh, who thought he might be an evolved human. After a great deal of experimenting, Gabriel showed no promise and Chandra cut ties with him. Emotional, Gabriel sought out another evolved human and ended up murdering him and stealing his ability. This jumpstarted the constant hunger for others' abilities that would lead to Gabriel changing his name and becoming the man so many people would learn to fear: Sylar.

Now known as Sylar, he began an obsession tracking of other evolved humans, killing them and collecting their abilities. Sylar quickly made his way to the top of not only the FBI's Most Wanted list, but he also became the target of the elusive Company - a group which was founded with the sole purpose of tracking and neutralizing evolved humans. Over time, Sylar became entangled in the lives of several people who had either direct ties to the Company or were members of the Company itself as the Company continued to invade his own life. Over the course of his dealings with this group - namely Noah and Claire Bennet, the Petrellis, and Elle Bishop - Sylar waffled between continuing down the murderous path he was on and striving to be a better person than what he had become.

The main catalyst behind Sylar's most recent foray into being a Better Person is Claire Bennet. But the story starts long before his catalytic conversation with the former cheerleader. It goes back to the moment when a former cop by the name of Matt Parkman forced Sylar's memories to be repressed and replaced with the memory and identity of another man. The ruse eventually fell apart, but when it did, Sylar was left with the stronger desire to become a better person so that he would not spend eternity alone. An encounter with an empath directed him toward Claire and, after a conversation with her, Sylar went to seek out Parkman once again. Knowing his abilities were a mental process, Sylar wanted the telepath to strip him of his powers in order to quell his hunger, this making him capable of being a better person. Unfortunately, despite Parkman's agreement to the deal, the telepath chose instead of neutralize Sylar in a different way: he trapped him inside of his own head and, while Sylar was caged in the coma, he encased him in brick in his basement and that is where Sylar has stayed indefinitely.

Trapped inside his own head, Sylar has been alone for - in his estimation - decades, as time works differently in the mind.

Third Person Sample:
He woke with a start, sitting up abruptly. Brown eyes were wide as he took in his surroundings - a dingy apartment. How did he get here? Swinging his legs off the sofa, Sylar looked around the room. There were no identifying objects - no photos or personal decor. The last thing he recalled, he had been face-to-face with Matt Parkman and the other man had agreed to strip him of his abilities. So why the hell was he alone in some strange apartment? Standing up, Sylar carefully crept through each room, searching for signs of another presence or some telling artifact that would explain where he was and who had brought him here. But after searching every room and finding himself standing back in the living room, Sylar had come up empty. There was no information here.

He slowly made his way out of the apartment, turning to see the address as 'C17'; an address that didn't ring a bell. Sylar continued down the hallway, leaving the door ajar as he continued on his quest. The place was oddly quiet, no sound from televisions or radios within the passed apartments, no neighbors making their way to or from their homes. Sylar was beginning to find the entire situation incredibly unsettling. He made his way through the building, forced to take the stairs after noting the 'out of order' sign on the elevator doors. Even as his made his way down five flights of stairs, Sylar didn't once pass another living being. Leaving the building, Sylar came to a halt just as he reached the street curb. Looking around, there was nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

No one was here. Nothing was here. Not a car, not a plane in the sky, no bicycles, no joggers, no commuters, no dogs. Not a single living thing. Sylar stepped out into the street, craning his head back to look into the sky and then turning in a slow circle to take in all of his surroundings. He was alone.

"Hello?" he called out, his voice lost in the vast empty channels the streets carved through the skyscrapers. "Hello?!" Sylar shouted this time and, still, no one replied. What was this place? And where was everyone else?
